Hitchcock/Azevedo Wrestling Camps
Training Champions for over 40 years |
| |
The Hitchcock/Azevedo Wrestling Camps began in 1967 in Clearlake, California as legendary Cal Poly Coach Vaughn Hitchcock introduced to California prep wrestlers the technique and style of wrestling that earned Coach Hitchcock’s teams, an unprecedented 8 NCAA Division II National Championships.
Through the years, tens of thousands of young men have attended the camp and have attested to the fact that their camp experiences had a direct influence on the many state and national championships won.
In 2001, Coach Hitchcock handed the camp over to another California wrestling legend, current Cal Poly Head Coach, John Azevedo.
Olympian and NCAA Champion John Azevedo, coming off of winning an unprecedented 7 CIF State Wrestling Championships at Calvary Chapel High School, returned to coaching at the collegiate level at Cal Poly SLO.
Before taking over the coaching and management of the camps, Coach John was determined to provide the same level of camp experience and wrestling expertise that generations of athletes have come to expect from the Vaughn Hitchcock Wrestling Camps. After seven years of running the Hitchcock/ Azevedo Wrestling Camps, Coach Azevedo has seamlessly sustained the outstanding legacy of California’s oldest and most respected wrestling camp.
